Name: Annie January/Starlight
Door: Door Pass: submissive
Canon: The Boys
Canon Point: Episode 6 Season 4 “Dirty Business”
Age: 28
Appearance: Most superheroes who make it into the public light are conventionally attractive. Annie is no exception. She is of average height at about 5’6” and has a deceivingly slender build. Her light blonde hair falls a little past her shoulders and lately she’s been wearing it straight and down or with a headband. She has deep brown eyes. She carries herself with fluidity and grace, some of which was learned from performing in her pageant days.
History:

ProtectiveEver since she took up the mantle of Starlight and began using her ability to fight criminals in her small town, Annie’s image as a born protector was sealed. While she tried to do good as a member of the superhero team The Seven, it wasn’t until she joined The Boys that she started making waves fighting against the megacorporation Vought and everything it stood for. She started a social movement and the people who counted themselves as her fans became advocates for voiceless children (Starlight House.) Starlight’s protective streak has done more than serve to shield her loved ones from harm. It has inspired others to act similarly. While the children of Starlight House are of utmost importance to her, though, she has been shown throughout various episodes to be very protective of other members of The Boys, especially her boyfriend Hughie.
ManipulableVought is indeed a sinister and despicable entity and as a whole throughout the series it has served as a puppetmaster to Annie. Since she began working for Vought she has unwittingly been under their thumb. Despite her best efforts, they and the present members of the Seven have been able to predict Annie’s behavior and, even worse, manipulate her into acting exactly as they wish. The best example of this is from the latest season. New member of the Seven Sage sets up an event where another member, Firecracker, stands on a stage across the street from Starlight House unleashing the skeletons from Annie’s closet, including the fact that Annie had an abortion. Enraged that such a private part of her life has been broadcast to the world, it doesn’t take long for Annie to get on that stage and pummel Firecracker to a pulp on national television. Homelander, another member of the Seven, murdered an old friend of Annie’s to manipulate her into being compliant. His demands even included that she publicly date him, which Annie did, for a time. In the most recent episode of The Boys, Annie is approached by someone she believes to be a fan who asks to take a selfie with her even though her public image has suffered greatly. She complies. Minutes later, when Annie goes to a quiet area to call her boyfriend, the “fan” is revealed to be a shapeshifting supe who gasses Annie and kidnaps her, then assumes her form in public.
Hair-Trigger TemperThere are different ways of looking at what sets Annie off. One way is that she’s taken a lot of crap all of her life from her critical mother, her church, and the pageants she endured as a young woman and that now she’s simply had enough. Another way of looking at it is that she’s always had a bit of a hair trigger (S4 references her cruelty to other girls in pageants) and that now as an adult she’s just simply worse. Now, instead of calling a pageant competitor a ‘fat slut’ she’ll beat someone who’s revealed her most private secret to a bruised mess. It never takes more than a smart look from fellow Boys member Billy Butcher for Annie to toss him a snide remark. There are just certain people on her shit list.
Black-and-WhiteAnnie is unquestionably a romantic. She romanticizes life to the point of everything being black and white. There’s always a good guy and always a bad guy. For most of her life, she’s been pursuing her romantic ideals in the form of a career in fighting crime as Starlight, but now she’s beginning to see the grey. There is no doubt that grey areas disturb her. When Firecracker confronts her about how Annie harassed her at a pageant in her youth and Annie realizes that she might not have always been a very good person she seems almost nauseated. When she first came to work with the Seven and realized that absolutely none of them were shiny-eyed optimists purely out for the good of humanity like she wanted to be, Annie was crushed. Like they say, things are rarely as clear as they seem.
Powers and Abilities: As Starlight, Annie January has some incredible abilities that make her a formidable superhero. She can control and harness electricity from nearby sources, allowing her to create and shoot powerful blasts of energy from her hands. These energy blasts can also emit a dazzling, blinding light. Beyond her energy manipulation, Starlight has shown she is incredibly strong, able to easily lift and move heavy objects. She is also tough enough to withstand hits and impacts, even from guns and other ballistic weapons. Additionally, it's possible that she has enhanced hearing, enabling her to pick up sounds that most people can't hear.
